Does Data appear in Deep Space 9?
No appearances of Data in any DS9 episodes, I don’t even think he’s ever mentioned… I think he is mentioned in one episode of DS9, but its such a quick reference. I feel like it was Bashir who talked about him. I know Torres references him in VOY.

What happened to Lieutenant Commander Data?
At the last minute, Data beams onto the craft and attaches a personal transporter to Picard and sends him back to the Enterprise. He dies in the resulting explosion. You can see the scene right here.

Show activity on this post. Spot does look a lot like Tasha Yar’s cat. Given that she and Data “hooked up” during the episode ‘The Naked Now’, perhaps he inherited her cat when she died. The TNG Novel Survivors indicated that her cat was killed on-planet before she left to join the Federation.

1. He doesn’t have the ambition (or at least he didn’t, before the emotion chip was installed.) 2. He’s so exceptional at what he does as a Lieutenant Commander, that he’s literally irreplaceable (therefore he can’t be promoted out of a job that he’s doing too well to quit.)

Data was found by Starfleet in 2338. He was the sole survivor on Omicron Theta in the rubble of a colony left after an attack from the Crystalline Entity. He is a synthetic life form with artificial intelligence, designed and built by Doctor Noonien Soong in his own likeness (likewise portrayed by Spiner).
