Why is Bowater shutting down?
The Bowater Southern Paper Company said it will close its newsprint mill here, the nation’s largest, on Nov. 21 for 15 days because of declining sales. The shutdown will idle most of the mill’s 1,500 workers. Bowater sells 700,000 tons of newsprint a year to 800 publishers in 30 states.
