The CalTPA is a new assessment requirement for all teacher candidates studying for a Preliminary teaching credential. The assessment is designed to give candidates the opportunity to develop, refine, and demonstrate teaching knowledge, skills, and abilities during the teacher preparation program.

In response to the shortage, most initial teacher credential fees are being waived between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022. Unfortunately, California has not waived fees for variable term waivers, which include CBEST waivers.
