Brain Technology found in the latest SID SL BRAIN fork and BRAIN rear shock knows the difference between pedaling force and bump force. It keeps suspension firm on smooth terrain and switches suspension to fully active the instant things get rough.
How does the specialized Brain fork work?
Our Brain technology employs an inertia valve that blocks oil flow in the shock when closed, creating an efficiently firm pedaling platform on smooth terrain. The inertia valve opens instantaneously when a bump force is encountered, allowing suspension to compress and absorb the impact.
How does the epic Brain work?
Specialized Epic Pro kit The main story here is the Brain, designed to keep the suspension firm for pedalling but instantly make it fully active when things get rough. It works using weighted inertia valves, which open up the compression circuits of the fork and shock when a bump force is encountered.
How important is sag?
Static, or free sag is the amount the suspension compresses from fully unloaded under the bike’s own weight and is very important on any bike except full suspension MTB where the bike weight is so much less than the rider’s weight, the suspension does not compress under the bikes weight.
What is specialized Rx tune?
RX Tune stands for Recommended Experience tune. Essentially the shocks are tuned for the frame of the bike. The best way is to take note of the code and ask for a dealer to get you the same. There isn’t really anything special except adjustments like volume spacers, lighter damping etc.

What PSI should my rear shock be?
The exact PSI you end up with depends on how plush/firm you want the rear shock to be, but a good starting point is 1 psi for 1 lbs in weight of the rider (including riding gear).
What happens if you have too much sag?
Too much sag will cause your front end to be too light and deflect off bumps and too little sag will cause your shock to be too stiff on bumps. A soft spring will initially ride high in the rear because it needs to be preloaded more than a stiffer spring.
