What does ENoG measure?
Electroneuronography (ENoG) involves electrical stimulation of the facial nerve at or near the stylomastoid foramen and the subsequent measurement and interpretation of the motoric response, as recorded at or near the nasio-labial fold. The ENoG test is the only ‘relatively objective’ measure of facial nerve integrity.
How is ENoG done?
ENoG. Electroneuronography is a test usually performed by audiologists to assess the integrity of the facial nerve. Two electrodes are taped to one side of the face. The first is taped over the stylomastoid foramen behind and under the ear and the second is taped near the nasolabial fold.

Is NCS test painful?
As the nerve is stimulated, you will experience a brief electrical shock. This may feel uncomfortable, but it usually isn’t painful. The entire procedure usually takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. In some cases, nerves may be tested in multiple locations, which can make the procedure take slightly longer.

When NCV test is done?
The nerve conduction velocity test test can be used to detect true nerve disorders (such as peripheral neuropathy and mononeuritis multiplex) or conditions whereby nerves are affected by mechanical compression injury (such as carpal tunnel syndrome and other compression neuropathies).

During the test, your nerve is stimulated, usually with electrode patches attached to your skin. Two electrodes are placed on the skin over your nerve. One electrode stimulates your nerve with a very mild electrical impulse. The other electrode records it.
Are EMG tests painful?
Is an EMG test painful? EMG testing may result in some discomfort, but it is usually well tolerated without any need for pain medication.
What can EMG not detect?
EMG will show damage in muscles innervated by damaged motor axons. EMG will not detect injuries to purely sensory nerves, and NCS may not detect subtle partial injuries, injuries to nerve branches that are not recorded from, or injuries distal to the site of study.
How long does NCV test take?
Nerve conduction testing takes 15 minutes to an hour or more, depending upon how many areas are studied. Nerve conduction studies show whether the nerves transmit electrical impulses to the muscles or up the sensory nerves at normal speeds (conduction velocities).
Why is NCV important?
Why might I need a nerve conduction velocity test? NCV is often used along with an EMG to tell the difference between a nerve disorder and a muscle disorder. NCV detects a problem with the nerve, whereas an EMG detects whether the muscle is working properly in response to the nerve’s stimulus.
