Is the Evinrude E-TEC a good engine?
Not great, but very, very good. For the most part, the engine has always started reliably, and runs like a clock. Over the last 10 years, we’ve only had two problems that can be attributed to manufacturing or design issues: One fuel injector failed under warranty.

How long does ETEC last?
Illness develops 1-3 days after exposure and usually lasts 3-4 days. Some infections may take a week or longer to resolve. Symptoms rarely last more than 3 weeks.
How many hours do you get out of an ETEC?
Case in point are some commercial customers of mine over at Catalina that ran them and never saw more than 1,400 hours out of a powerhead on the dozen of etecs they purchased under “special” pricing terms. Generally they saw about 800 hours.
