How long does it take to complete CFI training?
Students who are dedicated to completing their CFI course can complete it within a 6-week period. Part-time students typically take 12 weeks to finish their CFI course (depending on their circumstances) based on an estimated 3 activities per week.
Do you need an endorsement to take the FOI exam?
You do need an endorsement, that you have received the required fundamentals of instruction training of section 61.185(a)(1). That’s all it needs to state, that you received the required ground instruction, and it is only required if you aren’t a teacher and it is your first CFI certificate.

How long is a CFI written good for?
A satisfactorily completed knowledge test expires 24 calendar-months after the month it was taken. If a practical test is not satisfactorily completed during that period, another knowledge test must be taken.
