Are Staffies a good family dog?
Staffies can make great family pets As a rule, they are gentle, affectionate dogs who adore people. They are utter clowns who enjoy life and simply love being part of the family. In fact, their well documented love of children once earned them the nickname “nanny dog”.
What are Staffies known for?
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog breed of today is a fine companion known for their courage, intelligence, and love of children. Fans of the breed lovingly refer to them as Staffy for short. Even though these are purebred dogs, you may find them in the care of shelters and rescue groups.
Are Staffies stubborn?
It takes consistency, discipline, and firmness, because staffies are an incredibly stubborn breed. You just need to be more stubborn than they are at first. Yet you must never become complacent; Owning any dog is a big responsibility, but owning a powerful dog like a Staffie is a huge one.
How often should a Staffy be walked?
Staffies tend to have bags of energy and will gladly accompany their owner on as many as 3 walks a day. As a minimum, your Staffie will need 2 walks a day with some energy-filled playtime in the middle.

Can Staffies be left alone during the day?
Because they are so people-orientated, Staffies are known to suffer with separation anxiety when left alone. You should never leave any dog alone for more than four hours, but you might find your Staffie struggles with shorter periods than this and you might need to train them to be OK with very short periods.
Are Staffies good off leash?
You should only allow your Staffy off lead in areas where it’s safe to do so and not where you can see signs that prohibit walking dogs off lead (not a Staffy specific rule). Staffies still retain their prey drive to some extent, so they might chase after small animals.
How often do Staffies need a bath?

As for baths, your Staffy should really only be bathed every 3 months, or whenever they desperately need it. It can actually be better to bathe them this infrequently because washing them too often with shampoo can irritate their sensitive skin and strip the oils from their fur.
How long should a Staffy be walked for?
For the average Staffie, we recommend that a combination of walking, running, and playing should accumulate to around a total of 70 minutes per day.
How do I know if my Staffy is happy?
There are some really clear signs you’ll see in your dog showing they are happy:
- A high and waggy tail. This is probably the most well-known sign your dog is a happy pooch.
- Floppy ears.
- Their body’s relaxed.
- They’re playful.
- They lean in to you.
