What is greywater system?
Greywater systems capture gently-used water from bathtubs, showers and laundry and re-use it to water your garden. It typically accounts for 50-80% of a household’s waste stream. Greywater is ideal irrigating for trees and ornamentals, but cannot be used on lawns or other types of groundcover.

Are GREY water systems legal in Ontario?
Greywater pits are regulated under the Ontario Building Code (OBC). They are designed to treat and dispose of greywater when there is presence of a sanitary drainage system in a structure. Under the OBC, a greywater pit can only be used if the daily design sewage flow is less than 1,000 Litres per day.
Can you water plants with GREY water?

Can you reuse GREY water?
Greywater is wastewater from non-toilet plumbing systems such as hand basins, washing machines, showers and baths. When handled properly, greywater can be safely reused for the garden. Never re-use water from toilets, washing nappies or kitchen water.
Is kitchen sink water GREY or black Ontario?
Black water is from the toilet, kitchen sink and dishwasher. Gray water falls under a different set of rules in Ontario and many other areas. This waste contains far less pollutants than Black water. A normal septic system will combine both grey water and black water for treatment in the tile bed and filter material.
Are holding tanks legal in Ontario?

Is it OK to use soapy water to water plants?
Soaps and detergents are toxic to plants. A strong solution of soapy water sprayed onto foliage can disintegrate the leaves’ waxy coating, resulting in water loss and the eventual dehydration death of the plant.
Is laundry soap good for plants?
The sodium in the metaphosphates tends to seal up the soil; the boron may accumulate enough to become toxic to plants. Don’t worry about the phosphates in ordinary detergents; they will not hurt plants.
Is rain water GREY water?
Rainwater harvesting is the process of collecting and filtering rainfall from the roof of a building. Greywater recycling, on the other hand, recycles wastewater from domestic appliances such as washing machines, baths, showers and sinks, but not usually the kitchen sink, and never the toilet.
Can urine be used in GREY water?
The water from the shower goes straight to your gray water tank, and urine should go to the black water tank. However, sometimes urine ends up in the greywater tank. You know, like if you have kids showering in the RV. In this case, you will just need to add extra cleaning steps to keep your gray water tank clean.
