What is the difference between C. diff Colonization and C diff infection?
Colonized patients do not have disease caused by C. diff and often exhibit NO clinical symptoms (asymptomatic) of infection (e.g., diarrhea); colonized patients do test positive for the C. diff organism or its toxin. Patients with infection exhibit clinical symptoms and test positive for the C.
Are there different types of C. diff?
There are many different strains of C. difficile and one strain, North American Pulsed Field type 1, known as NAP1, is likely to cause serious illness.
What is the difference between C. diff toxin and C. diff antigen?
A positive result for C. difficile bacteria or C. difficile antigen (GDH) but a negative C. difficile toxin result means that the bacteria are present in the digestive tract but are not producing a detectable level of toxin.
Is C. diff the same as C. difficile?

How long is someone with C. diff contagious?
C. difficile diarrhea may be treated with a course of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor and taken by mouth. Once you have completed treatment and diarrhea is resolved, your infection is no longer contagious and you no longer need to take any special precautions.
Is C. diff toxin B worse than toxin A?
Only toxin-producing C diff strains cause disease and toxins A and B (encoded by the tcdA and tcdB genes) appear to play important roles. The toxins are pro-inflammatory enterotoxins, but toxin B is a more potent cytotoxin.
Is C. diff A or B worse?
In one study, the authors concluded that toxin B is essential for disease, while toxin A is not required. The second study showed that either toxin was capable of causing disease, but that the mutant strains producing toxin B alone caused more severe disease.
