How do you clean SCT optics?
We recommend a mixture of Isopropyl alcohol and distilled water for cleaning all our optics. A mix of 3:1 heavy on the water seems to work well but the exact mix isn’t critical and even pure Iso will not harm the optics.
How do you get perfect collimation?
You can achieve correct collimation by adjusting the tilt of the secondary mirror housed at the center of the Schmidt corrector (see Figure 1). This is the only adjustment available to the end user and should be the only adjustment required to bring the telescope’s optics into excellent collimation.
How do you clean SCT glass?
Dust the lens with the canned air (held 18-inches away) first. Then apply Windex to Kleenex (don’t spray it on the corrector). Swab outward from the secondary, changing tissues frequently. Dry with fresh Kleenex and use the air to dust off any lint left behind.
How do you collimate SCT?
To collimate the SCT or EdgeHD, follow these steps:
- Center the bright star in the eyepiece’s field of view.
- Defocus the star until you can see a dark “hole” in the center (i.e. the shadow of the secondary mirror) and 2-4 diffraction rings of light around it.
- Inspect the out-of-focus (“extra-focal”) diffraction pattern.
How do you clean coated optics?
Only use compressed air, reagent grade alcohol or de-ionized water to clean plastic optics. If an optical coating or substrate is unknown, err on the side of caution, and use de-ionized water and mild dish soap to avoid damage to the optic by any harsh chemicals.
How do you clean a focal reducer?
Do not disassemble the focal reducer to clean it. To clean the lens surfaces, first blow air on them with a blower bulb or com pressed air to remove any large particles. Then brush the lens surfaces with a soft lens brush and blow air on them again to remove any dislodged particles.
Do SCT need collimation?
To get the best performance from your Schmidt-Cassegrain (SCT) or EdgeHD telescope, its optics must be collimated—properly aligned within the telescope.
Does isopropyl alcohol damage lens coatings?
We do not recommend using alcohol wipes on any optics , as this could damage the coatings on the lenses. You can on the outside of the lens but not anywhere near the glass lens. We would recommend cleaning fluid for the lens.
How do you clean the inside of a refractor?
Step 2: Clean the surface
- Double-up an optical wipe and spray a little cleaning fluid on it. Don’t spray the lens!
- Gently clean a very small area with a wipe-dab action – don’t rub – then discard the wipe.
- Repeat over the surface of the lens. I used about six wipes for a 4” objective.
- Let the fluid almost dry.
Is 70 isopropyl alcohol good for cleaning thermal paste?
Wipe away most of the thermal paste that you can and then use 99% Pure IPA to clean away any residue. Avoid using rubbing alcohol, which is just 70% IPA.
How do you clean your corrector plate?
I’ve cleaned it had some haze in a few areas of the corrector plate where the cleaning mixture appeared to dry. I used distilled water, 91% rubbing alcohol in 1:1 mixuter and a drop of Kodak Photoflow, along with medicinal grade gauze to appy the solution to the plate.
How do I clean the pads of the corrector?
Gently remove the pads without wiping or putting any pressure on the corrector. If you see a spot that needs attention you can use the corner of one of the pads to swipe gently over the spot without applying any pressure with your finger.
How do you clean the inside of a toilet seat corrector?
Put your cleaning solution in a small spray bottle. I got mine at Target. Spray the corrector with a very fine misting of the solution. Don’t spray so much that drops run down the surface. Apply the pads to the corrector. The pads will stick to the moist surface. Cover the corrector with Webril pads.
How do you clean a dirty photo plate?
I used distilled water, 91% rubbing alcohol in 1:1 mixuter and a drop of Kodak Photoflow, along with medicinal grade gauze to appy the solution to the plate. I cleaned it a second time, and the haze is better, but still present.
