Is 170mm dropper post too much?
In general, the more affordable the dropper post, the shorter the travel will be. We think for most riders, 150 mm should be considered the minimum drop for trail riding, though with modern frame geometry providing more standover clearance, 170 mm will be an option for many.

The Reverb’s return speed is still adjustable, although that’s now accomplished by lifting a rubber dust cap on the remote and using a T25 Torx wrench rather than turning a dial. The bleed port and speed adjust are located under a rubber cap.
Can a dropper post be too long?
Most likely it will stop at its own collar pressing down at the frame’s seat post collar/binder. If then, at its full extension, the saddle still feels too high, you are likely to have a frame too big for you.
Why does my dropper post go down when I sit on it?
If your dropper post is moving without pressing the lever (it won’t stay up as you are riding), then you have too much tension on the cable. You’ll want to REMOVE tension.
