The Gearbox Code is stamped into a flat(ish) area on the right hand side, between the driveshaft and the nosecone. A 1500 Beetle would have had a gearbox code beginning with AC, or AH. (or AE if it had Limited Slip Differential). Final drive ratio of 4.125 : 1, giving a top speed of about 78 Mph.
What does gearbox code mean?
