What is DOD Transition Assistance Program?
The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) provides information, resources, and tools to service members and their loved ones to help prepare for the move from military to civilian life. Service members begin TAP one year prior to separation, or two years prior to retiring.

Can you do SFL-tap online?
You can now complete all required SFL-TAP courses online through the Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) website. If you choose to complete online courses, please remember to print your certificate of completion and present it to SFL-TAP staff in order to receive credit for completing the course.

BACKGROUND. The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is based on Public Law 101-510 and Public Law 112-56 TAP was legislated in 1991 under Title 10, which mandated the completion of pre-separation counseling.
Can you opt out of SFL-tap?
We recommend you physically go to the DOL workshop but we want you to know that this is an option. SFL-TAP close out – at the end of the 5-day course, you either have to schedule an out-counseling with your SFL-TAP counselor. Often this takes 4-6 weeks to get on their calendar.
