What is Akidney?
One of a pair of organs in the abdomen. The kidneys remove waste and extra water from the blood (as urine) and help keep chemicals (such as sodium, potassium, and calcium) balanced in the body. The kidneys also make hormones that help control blood pressure and stimulate bone marrow to make red blood cells.
Where is chronic kidney disease located?
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) means your kidneys are damaged and can’t filter blood the way they should. The disease is called “chronic” because the damage to your kidneys happens slowly over a long period of time. This damage can cause wastes to build up in your body. CKD can also cause other health problems.
Where is pain from CKD?
Pain from the kidneys is felt in the sides, or in the middle to upper back (most often under the ribs, to the right or left of the spine). The pain may also progress to other areas, such as the abdomen or groin.
What is Caliectasis of the kidney?
Caliectasis is a condition that affects the calyces in your kidneys. Your calyces are where urine collection begins. Each kidney has 6 to 10 calyces. They’re on the outer edges of your kidneys. With caliectasis, the calyces become dilated and swollen with extra fluid.
Is Caliectasis and hydronephrosis the same?

Can you see hydronephrosis on CT?
CT. CT will readily show hydronephrosis, and can also help identify the cause. Unenhanced CT is often used to look for urinary tract calculi. Contrast enhanced CT in the portal venous phase can help to delineate other causes of hydronephrosis, such as retroperitoneal fibrosis and pelvic malignancies.
What is the difference between hydronephrosis and pyelectasis?
Pyelectasis will resolve spontaneously more than 90 percent of the time. If the blockage is more severe, your baby may need follow-up care and possibly surgery after delivery. If the obstruction is more severe, urine may back-up and collect in the kidneys. This is called hydronephrosis.
