What are the ITAR categories?
US Munitions List (USML) – (ITAR)
- Category I: Firearms, Close Assault Weapons and Combat Shotguns.
- Category II: Materials, Chemicals, Microorganisms, and Toxins.
- Category III: Ammunition/Ordnance.
- Category IV: Launch Vehicles, Guided Missiles, Ballistic Missiles, Rockets, Torpedoes, Bombs and Mines.
Do I have to pay ITAR?
If ITAR applies to you, you’ll have to pay the yearly DDTC fee. It’s $2,250 per year, which is pretty steep. If you plan to manufacture anything, make sure it creates a profit of more than $2,250/year to account for the licensing cost.
Can you email ITAR documents?
When it comes to sharing ITAR technical data, email is often the most convenient method even if it isn’t the most secure. Email providers’ native security features are a great first step towards secure email, however, enhanced protection is needed to maintain ITAR compliance.
Can Green Card holders work on ITAR projects?
Citizens only, based on its good faith belief that only U.S. Citizens could work on ITAR projects. But the ITAR generally allows U.S. Persons to have access to ITAR controlled data, and defines a (natural) U.S. Person as a lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 U.S.C.

Can non US citizens work on ITAR projects?

If my company engages in activity regulated by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), does the ITAR or the EAR require me to hire only U.S. citizens? No. Nothing under the ITAR or the EAR requires or allows an employer to limit jobs to U.S. citizens.
