What is a gooseneck microphone used for?
Gooseneck microphones are designed for AV and conferencing environments, public address paging systems or environments where you need to have spoken word being picked up but where the presenter does not want to use a hand held microphone e.g. to be used with a lectern.
Are gooseneck mics good?
Cable gooseneck microphones are claimed to be more reliable than wireless microphones, as they do not have issues with RF interference. They also come at a lower price compared to wireless microphones of the same audio quality.
Where should you place a microphone without a boom arm?
If you don’t have a boom arm and you’re using the desktop stand that comes with many microphones, you should place the microphone 6 to 12 inches away from your face if you can.

You need a pop filter for a condenser microphone because it reduces popping sounds known as plosives. They form when you speak sharp letters, such as ‘P,’ ‘T,’ or ‘S. ‘ Plosives reduce the audio quality of your recordings. A pop filter disperses the sound entering a condenser mic, removing plosives.
How do you mic a podium?
Low Handling Noise: Choose a microphone with an isolated, shock mounted capsule within the mic body. This will greatly reduce the amount of handling noise (mechanical noise) transmitted from the podium and floor to the mic.
Do boundary mics need phantom power?

How far away should a mic be?
Your best position will be somewhere between 2 and 12 inches from the face of your microphone. You should also place a pop screen filter about 1 to 2 inches from the mic and apply additional measures in your recording space and mix, as needed, based on your choice of distance.
