Can you walk to Bumpkin Island?
At low tide you can walk around Bumpkin Island on its gravel beach. Total distance is one mile. However, at high tide the water comes all the way up to the vegetation, and the beach disappears completely in some areas.

The lagoon (actually an artificial lake) covers about 4 acres, and is only 3-4 feet deep. Due to Boston’s cold winter climate, most of the water is drained every fall and refilled in the spring.
Why is the swan boat pond drained?
(August 18, 2020) Boston Parks and Recreation Department began draining the Public Garden Lagoon on Tuesday, because the water has become unsafe for wildlife, and particularly toxic for the ducks. It will take 2-3 days for the lagoon to fully drain.
